Who can join?

If you are a national of a country outside the EEA or Switzerland, you can also join the Belgian Overseas Social Security. The condition is that you work for the Belgian state, regions or communities, or for a company that has its registered office in Belgium.

Levels of affiliation

There are three possible levels of affiliation for you:

  • 17: full affiliation. You pay the full contributions.
  • 18a: 9/10 affiliation. You pay 9/10 of the full contributions.
  • 18b: 8/10 affiliation. You pay 8/10 of the full contributions.

We offer the partial formulas 18a and 18b because the basic package 17 has three limitations for you as a foreign national:

  • Retirement pensions are not indexed, except when you are residing legally in a member state of the European Union (Denmark excluded).
  • For widows and orphans, pensions are only indexed when they:
    • are a national of a member state of the EEA or Switzerland, or
    • reside legally in the European Union (Denmark excluded).
  • You will only receive your sickness and disability benefit and your entitlement to deferred insurance for medical care if you are legally residing in a member state of the European Union (Denmark excluded).

As such, choose the formula that best suits your situation:
