You have lived or worked abroad for many years and have duly acquired pension entitlements with Overseas Social Security (OSS). Now you are 66 years old and full of anticipation, but nothing is happening, no monthly pension is paid into your account, nothing at all. Why is that?

Have you ever heard of ‘dormant pensioners’?

‘Dormant pensioners’ are people who are entitled to receive their pension but do not claim it when they are authorised to do so.

To claim your pension, you must take certain steps. Please refer to the page Claiming my pension to find out what these steps are.

Crucial information about the OSS pension

Let's summarise:

  • You will not receive your pension automatically.
  • It is best to submit your pension application 4 months before your 65th birthday.
  • If you submit your pension application too late, this will result in lost compensation.
  • You should ensure your contact details are up to date so that we can keep you informed.

Remember the age of 65

While legislation regarding the statutory retirement age in Belgium states that it will be raised to 66 and, from 2030, to 67, the retirement age for the OSS remains at 65. Your entitlement to OSS benefits therefore begins on your 65th birthday!

Important: Are you entitled to a statutory pension and an OSS pension? Then be sure to read the article ‘Two pension systems, two retirement ages’.
